[English]

The objective of this qualitative study is to elucidate the process of constructing femininity within the context of generational transformations, as evidenced by the lived experiences of women born in the 1980s in Yazd, Iran. The research employs a methodology that is based on the systematic approach of Strauss and Corbin. Data were gathered through semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 23 participants, utilizing purposive and theoretical sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. Open, axial, and selective coding were implemented systematically during the data analysis process. The results indicate that the participants’ lifeworld was initially shaped by a “channeled life,” which was defined by an alignment between semantic systems and social reality. This alignment was achieved through the collective reproduction of a relatively unified narrative of femininity by culture, family, education, and media. Eventually, a complex process of identity reflexivity was initiated as a result of the profound divergence between women's personal understandings and established lifestyle patterns, which was subsequently caused by fissures in this alignment due to increased higher education, rapid media evolution, and greater social presence. The lifeworld trajectory is imagined as a series of four distinct stages: “complete alignment,” “fracturing,” “significant divergence,” and “reciprocal reflexivity.” The resulting conceptual model, “sinusoidal femininity,” captures the continuous oscillation of this generation between traditional expectations, social imperatives, and individual desires, fluctuating between a hybrid traditional–modern identity and identity confusion.
